Saama helped this leader in handhelds to consolidate their BBB data & prevent fraud.
The Client:
The client is the market leader in providing handhelds, software and accessory solutions to
help consumers create a mobile lifestyle.
The Challenge:
The client’s virtual business model relies on partners to perform business tasks such as
manufacturing and distribution. They needed to gather the data from their partners and collate
it so that it appeared to come from one place, and offer their employees access to this
consolidated information. Most importantly, they had to create common business definitions
for both direct and derived data, so that the resulting information is accurate and consistent.
Incoming data had to be cleansed, and different reporting frequencies and needs had to be
catered to.
The Solution:
Saama built a data warehouse containing bookings, sales, backlog and inventory data. In
order to achieve the desired performance, data from sources around the world was combined
into multiple star schemas. Scripts that took into account the common business definitions
and rules were written to load the information into the data warehouse. Saama implemented
Business Objects™ WebIntelligence® to offer users access to the critical business
information in the warehouse. Hierarchies were built into the universe to support drill
downs. A few users were given the full client application permitting them to combine data
from other sources with data from the warehouse.
