Trolltech - Develop centralized business intelligence environment
The Client:
Trolltech sells and supports a cross-platform application framework used for developing applications once and deploying them on many platforms. Trolltech was acquired by Nokia in June, 2008 and is now the Qt Software division of Nokia.
The Challenge:
Trolltech staff members had no good way of getting sales and licensing data from their ERP system that was based at corporate headquarters in Norway. Most reporting was done by making SQL queries and putting the resulting data in Excel spreadsheets. Trolltech needed a centralized business intelligence environment to provide consistent and timely enterprise information.
The Solution:
Saama designed and built a star-schema data warehouse containing enterprise data extracted from their ERP system and other data sources. Business Objects Data Integrator was used to extract the data, transform it, and load it into the data warehouse. Business Objects Web Intelligence was used as the presentation application to make the information available to Trolltech staff.
Information about Trolltech sales orders, invoices, customers’ software licenses and customers’ software evaluations was loaded into the data warehouse. Historical information going back several years was included. Analysis can be done by product, product family, sales rep, sales organization, customer, customer geography and other dimensions. Sales targets were also loaded to enable actual-vs-target reporting. Currency conversion was also incorporated so sales and invoices can be totalled in any of three currencies.
The Benefits:
The new business intelligence application provides a single place where Trolltech staff members can see historical results and trends. This information is useful in making product and marketing decisions. Staff members can create their own reports or use reports that were created and saved by others.
