NIEM Harmonizer

An out-of-the-box and cost-effective transition to NIEM-conformance

The NIEM information exchange framework and LEXS standard provide a common language that fills a major gap in communicating critical public information—and that’s why it’s getting major traction at numerous government agencies, including DOJ, DOD and HHS. Despite the obvious payoff, however, the transition requires significant resources, domain expertise, training, time, effort, and cost. In many cases, a single initiative requires multiple applications to support the needs of different constituencies.

  • NIEM Harmonizer is an out-of-the-box solution that allows government agencies to cost-effectively share public safety data with local, state and federal units while providing instant NIEM conformance.
  • NIEM Harmonizer enables an umbrella approach when the data is standardized. At the same time, it supports the need to feed applications in specific, required formats.
  • NIEM Harmonizer separates the data integration process from the application, enabling users to begin the data sharing process independently from the process of identifying and selecting end-user applications.
  • NIEM Harmonizer can easily be integrated into the legacy architecture, and can also be used to build a new infrastructure from the ground up.
  • NIEM Harmonizer can be fitted into existing technologies and processes specifically to achieve NIEM-based standards.

NIEM Harmonizer has two deployment modes based on a hub-spoke design:

  • Harmonizer Spoke is designed to be placed at an end-point agency to provide a NIEM-based abstraction layer for an agency’s system. It transacts data into and out of the source system using NIEM as an intermediate standard.
  • Harmonizer Hub provides functionality at the target end of an initiative. It provides functions to insert data into a warehouse or to initiate federated queries to connected systems. Though components can be used in tandem, each can function independently.
