Ans: UMT is the short form for Universe Management Tool. This tool compliments the functionality of the designer tool which comes with the business objects software. It allows the business objects administrator manage the lifecycle of a universe in a much more effective way by providing features like compare, highlight differences, merge, document, bulk update, version control etc.
Q2: What is the typical user profile that would use UMT?
Ans: The typical profile of the user that uses the UMT tool is that of a universe administrator. The user should have rights to modify Universe. In BOXI this capability is to the user in the User Group "Universe designer User" or "Administrator".
Q3: Does UMT compete / replace any of the existing Business Objects tools / utilities?
Ans: No, UMT does not replace any functionality currently existing in business objects. On the other hand it adds to the features that are part of the designer tool and takes the maintenance of the business objects infrastructure in general and universe lifecycle management in specific to the next level.
Q4: What is the version of Business Objects on which UMT is supported?
Ans: The latest version of the UMT is compatible with the BOXI-R2 and R3 version's of the business objects software.
Q5: What are the H/W and S/W requirements for UMT?
Ans:
The minimum requirement of the system is:
- 512 MB RAM or above
- Win 98 and above on a 32bit OS
- Business Objects client version (specifically the Designer tool and all of its components)
- Microsoft Office - Excel 2000 or above
Q6: What is the typical upgrade path for UMT?
Ans: The upgrade path for the UMT tool is pretty straight forward, all the customer needs to do is install the newer version on top of the existing version.

Ans: The current version of UMT is XI 1.8
Q8: What is the support available for UMT?
Ans: Annual software maintenance contract can be bought at a cost of 22%.
All the new features that are added to UMT as part of the new intermediate releases are included as part of the maintenance contract and there is no additional charge.
Q9: What is the typical release cycle for UMT?
Ans: There is generally one release happening every 6 months with intermediate release for emergency bug fixes as needed.
Q10: Is there an impact on the Business Objects support on account of installing / implementing UMT?
Ans: No, there is zero impact on the business objects support on account of installing UMT as the underlying code used to write this tool only uses the supported and exposed interfaces that are part of the Business Objects software. Also, Saama is a technology alliance partner for Business Objects.
Q11: If BOBJ software is embedded in our Core Software, how does it integrate?
Ans: UMT, at the end of the day works with the universe which is a entity by itself and it is a stand alone tool which does not effect any other tools that are installed as part of Business Objects. It is the same as accessing the Designer tool that is used to modify the universe and exists as an independent program entry.
