Second New Facility in Four Months Reinforces Saama’s Life Sciences Commitment

CAMPBELL, CA – (November 28, 2017) – Saama Technologies, Inc., a leading clinical analytics company, today announced it will open a new Artificial Intelligence research laboratory in Chennai, one of the largest scientific, technological and educational centers in South India. The opening of the new facility on November 28 reflects Saama’s growing leadership position in the global life sciences industry. In October, Saama opened new offices in Bridgewater, New Jersey.

“Chennai will be a location of immense strategic value for Saama,” said Malaikannan Sankarasubbu, Vice President of Artificial Intelligence Research at Saama Technologies. “Our new office puts us in direct proximity to the premier resources and laboratories at the University of Madras, Anna University, and IIT Madras. These laboratories provide access to the world-class scientific and technological talent concentrated in that area, and facilitates potential future partnerships with the renowned Chennai Mathematical Institute.”

Chennai, located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, is the capital of Tamil Nadu. Often referred to as the “soul” of South India, the city of over 8.5 million is known for its vibrant economy and culture.

Saama’s new lab will be a strong presence in the Chennai community. The Chennai-based team’s efforts will focus on deep learning to optimize clinical trial technology and accelerate the drug discovery and development process.

Malaikannan joined Saama as Vice President of Artificial Intelligence Research in August 2017. He specializes in deriving insights with unstructured data like text and images and is passionate about Deep Learning applications in Healthcare and Life Sciences. He previously was Founder and CTO for, creators of MyPolly, an AI-based chatbot building. Malaikannan was part of the Enterprise Architecture team in Optum and Cognizant Technology Solutions.
