CAMPBELL, Calif. – Sept. 8, 2015 — Saama Technologies, Inc., a leading Big Data solutions and services company, today announced that two of its data scientists achieved significant success in recent Kaggle competitions, including multiple top ten percent rankings and one first place ranking in a high profile exclusive competition beating out nearly 2500 entrants.
“Kaggle is a well-respected resource for predictive modeling in the data science community. Its standards are high and competition is fierce, just like at Saama,” said Tim Amato, head of global data science practice, Saama Technologies. “We are proud to see members of our team have their skills and expertise ranked so highly by this community of elite professionals. They are a testament to the success of the hiring and training rigor we put behind our talent acquisition, and why Saama is rapidly becoming a magnet for world-class machine learning, mathematics and statistics professionals.”
Saama employees participated in several Kaggle competitions, the majority of which are centered on predictive modeling techniques. The competition won by a Saama data scientist focused on restaurant revenue predictions. The competition was significant, as it was the second most popular public competition in Kaggle history to date.
The winning model, a single gradient boosting model with simple parameters, took first place ahead of 2,458 other data scientists. The solution involved an interactive geomap to show the average annual revenue in different regions. Saama’s Fluid Analytics Engine™ offers significant computational power, enabling the Saama data scientists to test their ideas more frequently.
