DUBLIN, Ohio, May 19, 2011 – Sypherlink, a leading data integration software and NIEM conformance provider, announced that it was chosen by Xpediter Technology LLC as a partner to provide the N-DEx software portion of the I-CLEAR solution for Huntley and Abingdon (IL) police departments.
In an effort to aggregate data from surrounding law enforcement agencies, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) awarded grants to various police departments, including Huntley and Abingdon, to implement an interface with the Illinois State Police I-CLEAR system. The I-CLEAR system is an information sharing tool focused on enhancing cross-jurisdictional information sharing and facilitating crime prevention throughout Illinois.
In both police departments Xpediter was the incumbent vendor providing mobile data management software solutions. Xpediter was asked to develop a solution to interface with I-CLEAR and in doing so chose Sypherlink’s software as the N-DEx foundation.
I-CLEAR adopted the FBI’s N-DEx data formats as the basis for its data sharing system to replace its previously proprietary format. Many programs are employing this strategy of standardizing on a single data format to simplify the implementation process for local agencies looking to participate. With N-DEx in place, Sypherlink was perfectly poised to provide an immediate solution with its N-DEx Appliance software.
“After researching the market for an N-DEx partner, the choice was easy,” said Richard Ricasata, President of Xpediter. “Sypherlink is the clear leader in N-DEx solutions and well known as NIEM experts in the public safety data sharing community. We are very pleased to have them on our team.”
“This project is very important to the Huntley Police Department (PD) as sharing data with the state and ultimately at the federal level will affect the way we fight and prevent crime in our community,” said Sergeant Linda Hooten of the Huntley PD. “Finding the right vendors was a critical decision and given Xpediter and Sypherlink’s experience and reputation, we fully expect they will lead us through a quick and successful implementation.”
“Using our knowledge gained from years of experience and direct involvement with standards development at the federal level,” said James Paat, CEO of Sypherlink, “we created a software package specifically designed to help agencies embrace the N-DEx standard, including the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), called N-DEx Appliance.” The N-DEx Appliance consists of pre-built interfaces to widely used records management system (RMS) vendors including Xpediter. Acquired data is then transformed to NIEM/N-DEx standard formats and communicated to the appropriate parties through XML adapters. “We have seen great success with the N-DEx Appliance,” Paat continued. “Despite its recent release, it has been selected and implemented in several agencies nationwide to address state initiatives as well as direct data submissions to the FBI.”
“We are very excited to be chosen by Xpediter on the Huntley and Abingdon projects,” explains Paat. “Our approach to the public safety market includes partnering with highly successful, reputable and established vendors. Xpediter is a great example of that profile and we look forward to working with them on future implementations.”
The Huntley and Abingdon wins, along with the previously announced Rockford, IL PD selection, demonstrate Sypherlink’s ability to help state-directed data sharing programs reach their goal of agency participation, especially when adopting N-DEx standards. To assist state programs further, Sypherlink’s suite of public safety solutions includes a hub-based solution called National Information Exchange (NIE) Gateway that provides the infrastructure that operates state, regional or federal data sharing programs.
