The Motorists Insurance Group Chooses Saama To Drive Business Outcomes

CAMPBELL, Calif. – Oct. 15, 2015 — Saama Technologies, Inc., a leading Big Data solutions and services company, today announced that The Motorists Insurance Group has tapped Saama to improve customer and policy analytics to gain a deeper level of business insights across its multiple data systems. Building out an insurance-specific modern analytics platform (iMAP) with the help of Saama’s Fluid Analytics Engine™ (FAE), allows The Motorists Insurance Group to quickly uncover and operationalize strategic data assets and deploy pre-integrated analytics solutions across its business.

The Motorists Insurance Group needed to manage auto insurance by state in order to analyze cause and influences on customer retention rates. This involved accessing and analyzing customer data stored across disparate systems, with only small amounts of data able to be accessed. As a result data insights were often incomplete and out of date. In addition, because most of the data was sitting in a legacy mainframe system, it required specific skills and expertise to extract it to make it usable.

“In today’s disruptive environment, it’s important that a carrier differentiate itself not only by providing the best service and product, but also by establishing lifelong relationships with its customers,” said Bob Weishaar, Vice President and Chief Analytics Officer with The Motorists Insurance Group. “The speed with which we will be able to understand our customer needs based on insights from the iMAP-derived analytics will help us to leapfrog the competition.”

Saama’s unique technology-accelerated services allow customers to build open and company-specific advanced analytics platforms, which integrate disparate types of data and sources into a unified analytics ecosystem by pulling directly from the Data Lake. Saama’s iMAP big data architecture and capabilities mean that internal structured and unstructured data can now be merged with real time geospatial data, syndicated data, and social media to provide actionable business insights that significantly improve underwriting, claims and distribution outcomes.

On top of this iMAP, it is then possible to deploy elastic search and completely new analytics use-cases to help with coding and underwriting. In weaving data intelligence throughout management and operating functions, insurance organizations can use data-driven, actionable insights to lower operating costs, influence better pricing, and enhance products and services.

“We believe that analysts, underwriters and actuaries gaining direct access to the available data in native format in a self-service mode is a game changer,” noted Sanjeev Kumar, VP of Saama’s Insurance Practice. “They are able to surface and experiment with new data sources and combinations of data objects, increasing the competitive edge for their companies.”
